Stormy Sunny Sunderland

Today has been a day spent experiencing strong wind and  reflecting on how things could have been if we hadn’t got into port before the storm hit
The wind was so strong that even the pigeons were grounded and the town looks like it’s been evacuated

We went to the glass museum and the town museum, both of which were very interesting
We even saw a dinosaur.

Sunderland is a very interesting town with a rich history of shipbuilding
These photos show how it is now from the bridge compared to a painting done in the 19th century

The bridge in question is the Wearmouth Bridge which we have all seen before
I think my grandfather worked in the shipbuilders on the Wear before moving to Cammel Laird in Birkenhead in the 1930’s
Tomorrow we hope to make the short trip to Tynemouth to meet u p with our new crew
